Our Inspiration
A compass, not a flag
We draw from many sources. One, central, is Laudato Si'.

The Carbon Positive Awards draw inspiration from many places: the scientists who keep warning us, the communities who keep resisting, and the innovators who keep building. But there is one document that gave words to what we had always sensed. In 2015, Pope Francis addressed an encyclical letter to every person on the planet. Laudato Si' spoke of a "culture of discard", of the intimate connection between environmental degradation and social exclusion, and the need for a new dialogue about the future of our common home.
We are not a religious organisation, but we recognise a profound truth when we see one. Laudato Si' offered a diagnosis that still resonates today: that the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are one. That decarbonisation cannot be separated from justice. As the world reflects on Pope Francis's legacy, his words remain—a quiet compass for anyone trying to navigate the chaos. We carry that light forward. Not as disciples, but as fellow travellers.
