MSCI ESG

Leadership in ESG Ratings

This award recognises MSCI ESG for providing the forward-looking climate metrics that allow global investors to align portfolios with decarbonisation goals. Its Implied Temperature Rise (ITR) metric, covering over 12,000 issuers, compares companies' projected emissions across all scopes against their share of the remaining global carbon budget, expressing climate alignment as an intuitive temperature figure that supports decarbonisation target-setting, engagement and disclosure aligned with ISSB and other standards. In 2025, MSCI continued to expand this work through its Transition Finance Tracker, with sovereign and corporate emissions analysis based on data as of June 2025.

As the world's largest provider of ESG ratings and indices, MSCI makes ITR and decarbonisation-target data publicly available for thousands of companies, extending transparency to investors navigating the transition to net zero. Its Sovereign Implied Temperature Rise model applies a fair-share carbon-budget approach that balances decarbonisation needs with the development requirements of emerging economies, enabling more credible comparison of warming trajectories across G20 nations and the companies domiciled in them. By translating complex emissions pathways into decision-useful metrics, MSCI has built essential infrastructure for climate-aligned capital allocation. For making the temperature alignment of the global economy measurable and investable, MSCI ESG receives this recognition.
