Soil Capital

This award recognises a regenerative agriculture programme that has turned carbon sequestration into a scalable, verifiable income stream for European farmers. In July 2025, Soil Capital announced the continued scaling of its programme across the UK, France and Belgium, with total farmer payments reaching £12.4 million.

Participating farmers rose to 1,100, covering 322,000 hectares – a 34 per cent increase – and delivering climate benefits of 330,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, up 38 per cent on the previous year. In April 2025, Soil Capital launched Beyond Carbon, a comprehensive framework to measure farm performance across soil health, biodiversity, water management, climate and socio-economic outcomes, powered by more than 30 indicators.

By moving beyond a singular focus on carbon and rewarding farmers for the full range of ecosystem services, Soil Capital has built a replicable model for decarbonising food supply chains at the farm level.
