This award recognises a data initiative that has become the world’s most comprehensive and independent tracker of net‑zero commitments. In its fifth annual Net Zero Stocktake (September 2025), the Tracker evaluated over 4,000 entities – covering 198 countries, 712 subnational regions, 1,186 cities and 1,987 publicly listed companies. The report measured integrity against key decarbonisation criteria, including emissions coverage, interim targets, governance and offsetting practice, revealing that while target‑setting continues to rise, only 7% of companies and 4% of cities meet all minimum procedural and substantive integrity requirements – a crucial reality check for climate credibility.

Beyond its core database, the Tracker’s 2025 impact extended into financial markets when the Luxembourg Stock Exchange launched its Transition Finance Gateway powered entirely by Net Zero Tracker data. Investors can now use this intelligence to assess transition plans and direct capital toward entities with verifiable net‑zero pathways, while issuers can benchmark their performance against peers. By transforming raw commitment data into actionable, open‑source intelligence that separates rhetoric from real decarbonisation plans, this initiative has built the essential accountability layer for the global net‑zero transition.
