Umicore is committed to achieving net‑zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 2035, supported by global action plans, an internal carbon price and digitalised performance management. Its recycling processes deliver metals with a net negative carbon footprint, making battery recycling more sustainable than primary mining and directly supporting the decarbonisation of the electric vehicle value chain.

The company also increased R&D expenditure in battery recycling and advanced decarbonisation programmes to meet its sustainability targets. Its closed-loop system spans raw material sourcing to battery recycling, actively reducing the carbon intensity of critical materials for clean mobility.
