Carbon Clean
Leadership in Industrial Carbon Capture
This award recognises Carbon Clean for moving modular industrial carbon capture from concept to commercial reality in 2025. In April 2025, the UK company announced the successful completion of the world's first industrial deployment of CycloneCC at Fertiglobe's nitrogen fertiliser plant in Abu Dhabi's Al Ruwais Industrial Complex, where the modular unit achieved around 4,000 operating hours over six months and reached Technology Readiness Level 7—delivering high-purity CO2 that exceeded targets and was reused in urea production.
Installed on site in under a week, a record for the sector, the deployment validated Carbon Clean's fully modular design and its core innovation: combining rotating packed beds with its proprietary APBS-CDRMax solvent to cut equipment size tenfold and overall footprint by up to 50%. In May 2025, Carbon Clean announced the successful commercial-scale factory test of its CycloneCC C1 series, a more than twenty-fold scale-up capable of capturing up to 285 tonnes of CO2 per day—or roughly 100,000 tonnes per year per unit—while reducing equipment height by 70% and steel requirements by 35%.
Because the cost and physical footprint of conventional capture plants have long deterred hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel and refining, a compact, rapidly installable modular system represents a structural breakthrough. For making industrial carbon capture deployable at commercial scale, Carbon Clean receives this recognition.
