Emirates Global Aluminium
Leadership in Heavy Industry Decarbonisation
This award recognises Emirates Global Aluminium for leading one of the largest decarbonisation projects ever undertaken in the global aluminium industry. In November 2025, EGA signed a series of landmark agreements with TAQA, DUBAL Holding and EWEC to decarbonise its production in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative includes the transfer of EGA’s power and water assets to TAQA and DUBAL Holding for AED 7.0 billion ($1.9 billion), and the signing of Abu Dhabi’s largest-ever electricity supply agreements, committing EGA as the single largest electricity customer on the grid with 23 terawatt‑hours per year for 24 years, an increasing share of which will come from renewable and clean energy sources. These agreements are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3.5 million tonnes annually by 2035, equivalent to more than 3% of Abu Dhabi’s total current emissions.
Beyond infrastructure, EGA continued to expand its portfolio of low‑carbon products. In July 2025, the company extended its agreement to supply CelestiAL solar aluminium to Brembo, enabling the Italian braking manufacturer to reduce emissions by nearly 50% for the same volume of aluminium. By August, EGA delivered its first-ever CelestiAL‑R billets – the world’s first combination of aluminium produced with solar power and recycled scrap – to Japan’s Sankyo Tateyama, directly supporting that company’s Scope 3 decarbonisation targets.
For translating a comprehensive industrial decarbonisation strategy into verifiable, multi‑year carbon reductions and for proving that heavy‑industry conglomerates can be engines of systemic climate action, Emirates Global Aluminium receives this recognition.
