Yara Intl.
Leadership in Fertilizer Innovation
This award recognises Yara International for pioneering clean ammonia as a decarbonisation pathway for shipping, agriculture and energy-intensive industry. In June 2025, Yara Clean Ammonia supported a groundbreaking ammonia bunkering pilot in Pilbara, Western Australia—part of a landmark maritime decarbonisation initiative led by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation—building on its earlier completion of the world's first ship-to-ship ammonia transfer at anchorage.
As the world's largest trader and distributor of ammonia, operating a global network of ships and terminals, Yara is uniquely positioned to make zero-emission ammonia fuel a reliable reality for the shipping sector. Beyond marine fuel, Yara is decarbonising the food value chain through its renewable hydrogen plant at Herøya, Norway—the largest electrolyser of its kind in operation in Europe—and a portfolio of green and low-carbon ammonia projects spanning India, Egypt and the United States.
Its Herøya complex, historically among Norway's largest industrial CO2 emitters, anchors an ambition to fully decarbonise fertiliser production through a combination of renewable hydrogen and carbon capture and storage. By building the production and logistics infrastructure for clean ammonia at global scale, Yara has made a hard-to-abate molecule central to the energy transition. For turning ammonia into a credible decarbonisation fuel across multiple industries, Yara International receives this recognition.
