UPL Limited
Leadership in Crop Science
This award recognises a crop science company that has proven that decarbonisation and shareholder value can be advanced together. In the 2025 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, UPL achieved an ESG score of 77 out of 100 – more than double the chemical sector’s average of 32 – and became the only agricultural solutions company included in the DJSI World Index. Beyond the score, UPL exceeded its five‑year environmental targets: carbon emission intensity fell by 38%, water consumption intensity by 49%, and waste disposal intensity by 52% against a 2020 baseline.
The company also won the SBCOP Award in the Food Systems category at COP30 in Belém for its low‑methane rice project, demonstrating that agricultural inputs and on‑farm practice change can work together to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
UPL's 2025 ESG performance also reflects a structural integration of sustainability into its commercial model. The company's OpenAg™ network — connecting over 2 million farmers across 130+ countries — provides the infrastructure to cascade low-carbon agricultural practices at scale, turning individual farm improvements into measurable supply chain impact.
By demonstrating that a global crop science company can exceed its own decarbonisation targets while maintaining commercial growth, UPL has proven that agriculture's transition to lower emissions is both technically feasible and economically viable. For that, UPL Limited receives this recognition.
