IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)

Leadership in Climate Science Systems

This award recognises the world’s supreme scientific authority on climate change, which concluded the selection of 664 experts from 111 countries for its Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) in August 2025. Drawn from over 3,700 nominees, the author teams guarantee a rigorous, interdisciplinary and geographically balanced assessment of the latest climate science, with over half of the appointed experts from developing economies. Under the leadership of Chair Jim Skea, the AR7 process is now fully underway, with Working Group reports scheduled from mid-2028, ensuring that global policy continues to be anchored in the most up-to-date, peer-reviewed evidence available.

The enduring value of the IPCC resides in its unmatched scientific integrity. Its Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), published between 2021 and 2022, remains the most cited scientific reference in global climate policy, with a staggering 13,500 citations in its first working group volume alone. Providing the foundational evidence for the Paris Agreement and every subsequent national climate pledge, AR6 continues to shape the world’s understanding of climate risks, carbon budgets and mitigation pathways. For maintaining an unwavering, consensus-driven commitment to excellence in climate science, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change receives this recognition.
