SABIC

Leadership in Circular Carbon Manufacturing

This award recognises SABIC for combining verified circular materials at commercial scale with one of the most rigorous industrial decarbonisation programmes in the chemical sector. By end-2025, SABIC had reduced its Scope 1 and 2 GHG intensity by 22.9%, total absolute emissions by 16.9%, flaring by 57% and energy intensity by 12.8% against a 2010 baseline. Its Trucircle programme has delivered certified circular products at industrial volume, including Saudi Arabia's first bread packaging made with 100% mass-balanced recycled polyethylene.

Its demonstration plant for electrically heated steam crackers — developed jointly with BASF and Linde — is capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by 90% using renewable electricity. These are operational results, not roadmaps. The strategic significance of SABIC's 2025 results lies in their simultaneity: circularity and deep decarbonisation are being delivered not as sequential phases but as concurrent operational realities within the same industrial footprint. Its electrically heated steam cracker demonstration — developed jointly with BASF and Linde, capable of reducing process emissions by 90% using renewable electricity — provides a replicable blueprint for the global petrochemical sector, where cracking alone accounts for a significant share of industrial greenhouse gas output.

For delivering both circularity and decarbonisation as measurable, commercial realities, SABIC receives this recognition.
