CEMEX
Leadership in Cement Decarbonisation
This award recognises Cemex for embedding science‑based decarbonisation into the core strategy of a carbon‑intensive industry. In 2025, its European operations achieved the Cement Europe Association’s 2030 gross CO₂ emissions target five years ahead of schedule, while the company reduced its specific gross CO₂ emissions by 2% year‑on‑year and was named to CDP’s 2025 Climate ‘A List’ for transparency and performance.
At the same time, Cemex secured EU Innovation Fund support for the 157 million euro CO2LLECT project at its Rüdersdorf plant – the largest CCS project in the global Cemex Group – which will capture 1.3 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.
These quantifiable milestones, from emissions reduction to carbon capture, prove that heavy‑industry decarbonisation is not a distant pledge but an operational reality. Beyond its own operations, Cemex drives market‑wide change through low‑carbon solutions. Vertua®, its lower‑carbon concrete, enabled a strategic agreement with Metrovacesa that delivered over 1,700 tonnes of CO₂ avoidance across three Spanish developments in 2025 alone.
By combining certified climate targets, world‑class capture infrastructure and measurable customer‑led emissions reductions, Cemex has demonstrated that industrial decarbonisation can be both profitable and verifiable. For translating ambitious science‑based commitments into tangible 2025 outcomes, Cemex receives this recognition.
