This award recognises Kraken for proving that software is now a decisive lever in the decarbonisation of the global utility sector. In September 2025, Octopus Energy Group announced the spin-off of Kraken as an independent company, a milestone reached as the platform surpassed USD 500 million in committed annual revenue—quadrupling its contracted revenue in just three years—through licensing deals with energy majors including EDF, E.ON Next, National Grid US, Origin Energy and Tokyo Gas. Now contracted to serve over 70 million customer accounts across 27 countries and processing 15 billion data points per day, Kraken has become the most proven AI-driven operating system for utilities racing to integrate renewables, manage volatile power markets and electrify demand.

By the end of 2025, Kraken had raised USD 1 billion in its first standalone funding round at an USD 8.65 billion valuation, underlining how central data-driven platforms have become to the energy transition as utilities modernise ageing systems to meet decarbonisation targets. Kraken's technology enables dynamic tariffs, electric-vehicle optimisation and the aggregation of distributed energy resources—turning millions of homes into flexible, grid-balancing assets. For building the digital backbone that allows utilities worldwide to accelerate their shift to clean power at scale, Kraken receives this recognition.
