Leadership in Climate Risk Data

This award recognises Standard Chartered for delivering on its sustainable finance commitments at a time when several global banks were retreating from theirs. In 2025, the bank surpassed its target of USD 1 billion in annual sustainable finance income, reporting USD 1.07 billion, and achieved net zero across its own operations after cutting its operational carbon footprint by 96% since 2018. As the first Global Systemically Important Bank to obtain external validation of its net zero targets, Standard Chartered set science-based interim 2030 targets across twelve high-emitting sectors and published a detailed transition plan to reach net zero financed emissions by 2050.

With a focus on Asia, Africa and the Middle East—the emerging markets where the transition is most capital-constrained—Standard Chartered is mobilising toward a USD 300 billion sustainable finance target by 2030, deploying green bonds, sustainability-linked loans and transition finance to help clients decarbonise. The bank brought forward its thermal coal phase-out and intensified engagement with transition-priority clients yet to set net zero targets. By proving that a systemically important bank can grow sustainable finance income while operationalising a credible, science-based net zero pathway, Standard Chartered has set a standard for the sector. For aligning financial capital with the transition across the world's most challenging markets, Standard Chartered receives this recognition.
