Hitachi Energy

Leadership in Smart Grids

This award recognises Hitachi Energy for scaling the grid infrastructure on which the entire energy transition depends, under the principle that there is no transition without transmission. In 2025, the company announced USD 9 billion in global investment across engineering, manufacturing, R&D and partnerships to expand and modernise grid infrastructure, and was selected for a 950-km, ±800 kV, 6 GW HVDC link to evacuate renewable energy from Bhadla as part of India's 500 GW renewable integration programme.

With more than 150 GW of HVDC links and over 54 GW of offshore wind already integrated into power systems worldwide, Hitachi Energy is the indispensable enabler connecting remote wind and solar generation to the grids that need it. Beyond headline projects, Hitachi Energy delivered measurable operational momentum in 2025, including 11% revenue growth and significant margin expansion, alongside continued investment in UK delivery through its new Inverness project office supporting Scotland's HVDC programme.

By converting decades of high-voltage expertise into the converter stations, transformers and grid-edge solutions required to absorb intermittent renewables at scale, the company has made grid modernisation a measurable decarbonisation instrument for utilities and jurisdictions worldwide. For building the transmission backbone of a renewable-powered world, Hitachi Energy receives this recognition.
