DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority)
Leadership in Renewable Procurement
This award recognises Dubai’s utility authority for turning record‑low solar pricing into measurable national decarbonisation. In 2025, DEWA increased the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s operational capacity to 3,860 MW, added 1,000 MW of clean generation during the year, and launched the tender for a seventh phase that will add 2,000 MW of solar plus 1,400 MW of battery storage.
The sixth phase achieved a Levelised Cost of Energy of just US $0.0162/kWh – the lowest ever recorded for the solar park – proving that large‑scale renewables can undercut fossil generation while cutting annual carbon emissions by an estimated eight million tonnes.
Beyond capacity, DEWA raised its renewable share to 21.5 % of total production, raised the 2030 clean‑energy target to 34 %, and raised the solar park’s 2030 capacity target to 8,000 MW (well above the original 5,000 MW). By issuing 51 ‘Industry Friendly Power Certificates’ to help industrial users decarbonise their own operations, DEWA has extended emission reductions beyond the grid. For demonstrating that a conventional utility can be an engine of verifiable, large‑scale decarbonisation, DEWA receives this recognition.
