CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology)
Leadership in Battery Manufacturing
This award recognises the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer for systematically embedding carbon neutrality into every stage of its industrial footprint. In May 2025, CATL brought its Shandong plant online – the first production base in northern China built to “Lighthouse Factory + Zero‑Carbon Plant” standards, with Phase 1 adding 60 GWh of annual capacity and plans for Phases 2 and 3 to follow in 2025‑2026. Across its global operations, CATL achieved carbon neutrality in its own factories in 2025 while moving decisively toward a 2035 goal of full supply‑chain decarbonisation. In November 2025, the company broke ground on a €4.1 billion gigafactory in Zaragoza, Spain – Europe’s first carbon‑neutral LFP battery plant – capable of supplying 50 GWh annually to Stellantis. Each of these “zero‑carbon” facilities reduces CO₂ emissions from the single most critical component of electric mobility: the battery pack.
Beyond its factories, CATL has expanded its zero‑carbon ecosystem through a series of 2025 partnerships, including a strategic collaboration with Dongying City to build its first high‑proportion green electricity direct‑supply zero‑carbon industrial park in China, and an agreement with Transfar Group to develop zero‑carbon solutions across logistics, commercial vehicle electrification and multi‑scenario applications.
By exporting its proprietary decarbonisation expertise rather than merely selling batteries, CATL has become a systemic enabler of the global transport transition. For turning industrial‑scale manufacturing into a verifiable decarbonisation engine, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. receives this recognition.
